I'd be really interested in hearing what peoples thoughts are about the latest trends in multi-animal RFID tagging for social interaction monitoring. Is the RFID resolution good enough? Do you need to know more than that the animal has shared a 5cm cell with another?
You probably are familiar with RFID technology used in transport systems (such as Oyster) and for tracking logistics, as well as Kevin Warwick's famous RFID implants, but now the technology is available for sub-cutaneous implant in the lab for tracking Social Interaction. The problem is that the resolution is currently only 5cm so the question is - is it valuable to improve using video tracking to supplement spatial resolution?
